Outreach
A. Approach to Outreach
The outreach program at St. Mark's was established for reaching outside of our church and helping organizations that function within our community. We strive to identify and meet needs within the area.
B. Outreach Ministries
1. Friday Morning Breakfast
The Friday morning Breakfast has been in existence for over 15 years with over 30,000 meals served. In 2024 we served approximately 3,600 meals. We are closed the Friday after Thanksgiving and the Friday of Christmas. We provide a $20.00 gift card from HEB the Friday before Christmas Week. We currently have twelve volunteers participating in the Friday breakfast.
2. Missionpalooza
Prior to COVID, our EYC Director organized and led the Missionpalooza Mission Trip for youth and adults beginning in 2004 in New Mexico. The youth from our diocese went with University Baptist Church of Clear Lake, New Mexico to build churches on the Navajo reservation. Mission trips in the past have provided service to others in St. Louis, Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, in Texas after Hurricane Ike, in Bastrop, Texas after the fires, in Houston, Texas after Hurricane Harvey, and in Oklahoma after devastating tornadoes.
3. The Food Pantry
Bags of groceries are handed out on Thursdays. Members rotate the purchasing of groceries. EYC members bag the groceries.
4. Rector’s Discretionary Fund
5. Angel Project
C. World Mission Involvement
1. The Heifer Project
For more than 80 years, Heifer International has worked with people all around the world to end hunger and poverty and care for the Earth. Each Lent families collect and donate money to The Heifer Project. Partnering with farmers across a range of different livestock and crops, the project creates unique solutions to local challenges. Together, they build inclusive, resilient economies, so communities can develop effective ways to end global hunger and poverty in a sustainable way. Our youth have chosen animals, seeds, and water for other countries.
